Video game developer Blizzard is announcing that the multiplayer beta stage for the Legacy of the Void installment of Starcraft 2 is set to be launched on March 31 and will introduce a wide array of changes to the core elements of the real time strategy experience.

The official Battle.net announcement explains that the testing will begin quicker than the company is used to because it wants to create a stronger collaboration with the player community.

This means that some game elements will be rougher than the fans might expect and some units and features will not be implemented from the start.

At the same time, the beta for Starcraft 2 - Legacy of the Void will be longer, although Blizzard is not yet offering a clear end date.

The biggest gameplay changes will be focused on the mineral count at each base, with half the patches having 1,500 resources and the other half set at 750, the tweak being designed to encourage players to be faster when it comes to expansion.

The worker count when a match starts has been increased to 12 so that the early game is more exciting and the developers at Blizzard also say they have improved target acquisition for ranged ground units.

The studio adds, "We don’t currently know of anything unwanted that’s caused by this change, but we’d like to make sure that this is in fact the case during the beta. We’d really like to thank our community for locating this behavior, and we also agree with you all in that this could potentially be a really solid change to the game."

Starcraft 2 will also make changes to the flow of time

The speed of the game clock in Starcraft 2 - Legacy of the Void now matches real time, which means that gamers will have to re-learn some elements of the game like attack speed values, movement, cooldown and research times.

The impact of this modification will be widely felt and Blizzard says that it will look to the fans to learn whether it is a positive move or something that needs to be scrapped before the full version of the title launches.

The studio is also offering a lot of details about some of the tweaks that particular units will see for the multiplayer beta.

At the moment, there's no official launch date for Starcraft 2 - Legacy of the Void.
