The development team at Blizzard announces that it has managed to sell 1.1 million units of Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm on the PC during the first two days after the title was launched, on March 12, all over the world.

Mike Morhaime, the chief executive officer and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, states, “In addition to a brand-new single-player campaign, we added a ton of enhancements with this expansion to make StarCraft II even more fun to play, and more exciting to watch.”

“We're pleased to see gamers and eSports fans around the world enjoying Heart of the Swarm.”

Blizzard also says that 1.1 million viewers have watched at least some part of the 21-hour-long global broadcast for its launch events and that concurrent logins have reached 125,000.

Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm is also already having an impact on the eSports leagues, where players are developing new strategies in order to accommodate the new units introduced by the expansion.

Sundance DiGiovanni, chief executive officer at Major League Gaming, adds, “StarCraft II has been a premier game at Major League Gaming events since Wings of Liberty was released. Heart of the Swarm has generated even more excitement, and we're all looking forward to what the future brings for StarCraft II eSports.”

Kevin Lin, the leader of Twitch, says that his own streaming service has also witnessed an increase in viewers since Heart of the Swarm was launched, with many gamers interested in seeing how high-level players deal with the added features.

The game is one of the biggest launches on the PC and Blizzard has specifically upgraded the infrastructure of Battle.net, its multiplayer service, in order to deal with the increased demand.
