StarCraft II will continue to be supported by its developer, Blizzard, even if the company is hard at work making the next chapter in the trilogy, called Heart of the Swarm and focusing on the Zerg faction.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty was just released this year, and it became one of the most popular real time strategy titles of all time, even if it was just the first chapter in a planned trilogy.

The game has already received two pretty hefty patches, in order to fix up many balancing issues, and get players interested in all of the three factions included in the game, and, according to Blizzard, more content is on the way.

Speaking during this weekend's BlizzCon event, production director Chris Sagaty and Battle.net project director Greg Canessa said that StarCraft II players are in for "waves and waves of new features."

Even if the next installment, Heart of the Swarm, won't be released for another 18 months, at least, the company will be adding plenty of new features, for both the competitive multiplayer mode, as well as new types of gameplay, to keep things varied.

Among the new features Blizzard revealed are multiplayer leagues, multiple in-game chat channels and new types of replay systems.

The new updates will target both professional, hardcore players, as well as those that opt to play a multiplayer game from time to time, and aren't that experienced.

Besides the new features, Blizzard will also be using the StarCraft engine to build new types of mini-games, a feature that was greatly used in the original title by the community to create special game modes.

Sagaty and Canessa also hinted at other new features coming soon, but declined to release further details, or to put any release dates.

What is certain is that all of the updates will be completely free of charge, as the community is very important to Blizzard.
