As the launch of StarCraft II nears, Blizzard has released a video clip detailing the single player campaign of the game. Not much has been revealed about this game mode, other than the fact that it will be quite a different experience from the multiplayer component. It is known that the main campaign hub is Raynor's rebel battle-cruiser from which the player can choose the missions they will engage in, upgrade troops and hire mercenaries.

One of the more interesting features is that suggested by the video is that whatever decisions the player makes throughout the storyline will affect the characters of the game and maybe even the following campaigns. The developers are promising that StarCraft II's single player will be varied, with the many missions carrying the player around very different battlefields.

This is quite a departure from the campaign mode in Blizzard's previous games, signaling very interesting things to come for fans of the franchise. Blizzard has said in the past and has reiterated in this video that it is aiming for a more cinematic and non-linear experience, allowing units in single player that are not available in multiplayer for balance issues.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty is only the first installment of the story. Two other games will follow bearing the StarCraft II name, Heart of the Swarm for the Zerg side of the narrative and Legacy of the Void for the Protoss campaign, each containing very different styles of gameplay. Heart of the Swarm is said to focus more on role playing game elements, while Legacy of Void will task the players to use diplomatic skills to unite the Protoss tribes against the various threats of the galaxy.

StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will be released tomorrow at midnight worldwide, exclusively on the PC. In an interesting move, Blizzard has not sent any review copies to any press outlet, arguing that the game could only be experienced properly once it was released because of the expansive online features.
