The StarCraft franchise has been one of the most successful ones from Blizzard, which has released a variety of add-ons and expansions for the original game. Now, as the large company is slowly but surely letting out tidbits of information about the second title, it seems that some things won't stay the same as the ones found in the first iteration.
Although a lot of people wanted the development team to make a lot of changes, it seems that the latest batch of news tell about some pretty sad ones, as the voice actors of the most important characters in the game, the Terran leader, Jim Raynor, and the Zerg Queen of Blades, Sarah Kerrigan, won't be reprising their roles in this future title, which will be split into
three volumes, following each of the factions present in the game.
It seems that the voice actors in question, Robert Clotworthy and Glynnis Talken Campbell, weren't contacted by any Blizzard officials in regard to StarCraft II, but Campbell was auditioned for her old role, thus explaining the voice of Kerrigan in one of the teaser trailers that were released at last year's BlizzCon, in which the Queen of Blades made her appearance.
“Well, it just figures, doesn't it? Blizzard just gave me my Dear John phone call,” replied Campbell on a fan forum of StarCraft II. “Basically, it was "We can still be friends – we just don't want to see you anymore." Ha ha! Ah well...that's showbiz. Anyway, thank you for a wonderful and touching article – it's a great going away present, and I'll cherish it.”
While it may seem very sad for old fans of the game, perhaps Blizzard felt the need of a big change in regard to the main characters of the series. Hopefully the future voice actors will be more than up for the challenge of playing such important roles. Now, if only we heard an official announcement about the release date coming from the company, which is still
cleverly avoiding the subject.
