The long-awaited shooter still isn't being worked on by Blizzard

Blizzard has talked about the long-awaited StarCraft: Ghost shooter, saying that the title, which is currently on hold, might be revived in the future, although there are currently no plans regarding the project.

The StarCraft series of real-time strategy games became extremely popular many years ago and, in between working on the full-fledged second installment, Blizzard promised that a third-person shooter named StarCraft: Ghost would also appear.

Sadly, that hasn’t happened, as the company released StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty back in 2010 and is now working on the second chapter of the trilogy, in the form of Heart of the Swarm.

This doesn’t mean that Blizzard has completely forgotten about Ghost, as StarCraft II lead designer Dustin Browder told Kotaku that a revival might happen at some point in the future.

"There are no plans," Browder said in regards to an upcoming revival. "I'm not saying we won't ever, but I'll tell you what I do know: There are no meetings going on. There is no team. No one talks about doing it."

Browder does highlight that things might change in the future, but fans shouldn’t get their hopes up.

"It doesn't mean that in two years from now, we won't have those meetings, the team won't be formed, but there is literally nothing happening around that game right now that would indicate that there's any likelihood that it will happen. It's just as likely we'll do that again as Lost Vikings 3 or whatever. There's just no guarantees one way or the other, but nothing is happening."

The StarCraft II designer also emphasized that the decision to suspend Ghost, which was supposed to appear on consoles, doesn’t reflect the studio’s negativity towards those platforms.

"We are super huge fans of consoles. We love console gaming as players," Browder added. "I wasn't really party to [the decision to put Ghost on hold] but I know it was a difficult decision."

Even if StarCraft: Ghost isn’t being worked upon, the game’s protagonist, Nova, will still make an appearance in the upcoming Heart of the Swarm.
