After the leaked teaser at the beginning of the week, StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm has now received its official debut trailer, complete with gameplay footage from the upcoming strategy game as well as a few cinematic sequences.

StarCraft 2 is by far the most popular real-time strategy franchise in the world, and the decision of its developer, Blizzard, to split it up into three chapters, each focusing on a single race, was definitely interesting.

Now, after the release of the first installment, Wings of Liberty, which focused on the Terran faction, the next chapter will be called Heart of the Swarm and will concentrate on the Zerg race.

We've already seen a major leak happen over the weekend, with the first teaser trailer for Heart of the Swam detailing a confrontation between Terran leader Jim Raynor and Zerg Queen of Blades Sarah Kerrigan, two former lovers who fought to keep humanity safe from the reapers, but saw Kerrigan sacrifice herself.

Now, Blizzard has launched the official debut trailer for StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swam, showcasing not just a portion of the cinematics we saw at the beginning of the week, but also gameplay from the new real-time strategy title.

In it, it seems that Heart of the Swarm will be different than Wings of Liberty, allowing players to control both Kerrigan and the Zerg faction by deciding evolution branches and engage in lots of different battles across various terrains.

Fans needn't get too excited, as according to Blizzard's previous statements, Heart of the Swarm will be out next year, as there are plenty of things that need to be implemented in the new StarCraft 2 chapter, as well as in the current Wings of Liberty release, which saw plenty of patches appear since its release last year.

Until more details appear, probably at next week's E3 2011 conference, check out the debut trailer for StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm below on YouTube or download it right now from Softpedia.
