The development team at BioWare in charge of Star Wars: The Old Republic is getting ready for the launch of the new Shadow of Revan expansion, which is set to be offered on the PC on December 9 and will introduce more content for gamers to explore, while also delivering a major set of changes for the core mechanics of the MMO.

Charles Boyd, the lead writer in charge of the new content, says that the new expansion is aiming to get at the heart of the themes Star Wars video games have always been exploring and that Revan is a character gamers have also praised for his nuance and have even identified with.

In a new interview, the developer says that Knights of the Old Republic was one of his inspirations and that he also talked with the community in order to understand their feelings towards the character and how he could be integrated in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Boyd states, “For me, creating characters is all about personality, figuring out what motivates, amuses, or angers them. While there are occasionally game-specific concerns – how do they fight in combat, etc – finding their ‘voice’ in conversation and making them relatable to the players always comes first.”

Shadow of Revan will focus on the character’s attempt to subdue the entire universe and on how players who are aligned with both the Jedi and the Sith try to stop him.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is free-to-play, Revan comes with a price

Gamers who pre-order the new expansion will be able to play it on December 9, and if they place an order before the start of the month, they also receive the Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion and a status of Revan to use in their player stronghold.

The new content will include five new levels of story-driven missions and an increased level cap set at 60, which means that even veteran players have an incentive to return to the MMO.

More Flashpoints and Operations are also introduced for high-level players to test out their skills.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a free-to-play title which allows players to explore the universe of the franchise as it existed thousands of years before the events of the movie franchise.

It’s unclear how the team at BioWare will deal with the launch of the new trilogy.
