The development team at BioWare and publisher Electronic Arts are at the moment teasing the launch of the new 3.0 major update for Star Wars: The Old Republic, which is apparently set to bring well-known character Revan to the MMO.

The company is not yet ready to offer any sort of details about his role and about the new story that it plans to weave around him, but the tagline says that he will finish what he started, probably in the previous titles in the Knights of the Old Republic series.

Revan was the main villain in two titles, and after that, BioWare has created novels featuring the character which show how important he was during the Mandalorian conflicts and during the civil wars of the Jedi, working with both the Sith and the Jedi.

In Star Wars: The Old Republic, the character was introduced in a previous event, but it seems that now there are plans to make him a much bigger element, with the player probably having to battle him at some point.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a free-to-play MMO which is designed to focus on narrative and BioWare has said that it wants to continue to support the experience for years to come with new content.

Revan is a great choice of villain for the title because a lot of the players already have an emotional connection to him, and even some of those who have not yet tried the title might be persuaded to pick him up just to see what he is up to.

Star Wars: The Old Republic and the free-to-play model

Star Wars: The Old Republic was launched using a classic subscription model by Electronic Arts, but the game did not attract a big enough player base and a switch was made to a free system, although those who are willing to pay continue to get some advantages.

Since then, the title has become successful and a range of new content was introduced, based on familiar elements of the Star Wars universe, like space battles and the Jabba cartel.

BioWare has emphasized the stories that the MMO can tell, which separate its title from others in the same genre, and the appearance of Revan might be a good occasion for fans of the universe to see what Star Wars: The Old Republic has to offer in terms of mechanics and social features.
