The latest Star Wars: The Old Republic expansion, Galactic Starfighter, has been available to the game's subscriber base since December, as an early access feature.

Galactic Starfighter has also been recently made available to non-subscribers that hold the “preferred” status, meaning that they either are former subscribers or they have made at least one purchase from the game's Cartel Store.

Star Wars: The Old Republic still remains a free-to-play game, but players that opt not to spend any money in-game suffer from various penalties such as reduced XP gain, less mounts and companion abilities and other such minor nuisances.

The Galactic Starfighter expansion will become available to free players starting February 4, and will bring a new PvP mode, offering a proper space dogfighting experience.

Subscribers will still have the upper hand though, so they will be the only ones able to benefit from maximum leveling and progression in the expansion. Preferred customers can also unlock these perks, for a small fee.
