It’s the end of an era: though fans probably expected for something to change with the “Star Wars” other property when Lucas Film was sold to Disney, few actually imagined that Disney would pull the plug on “Clone Wars.”

And yet it did.

Screen Crush confirms that Disney has taken an axe to Cartoon Network’s “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” in favor of a new project that would be set in a timeframe “previously untouched in Star Wars films or television programming.”

The good news is that the cancelation will not result in the immediate yanking of “Clone Wars” off TV, as the story arc for season 6 is already nailed down and Supervising Director Dave Filoni is hard at work on it.

“While the studio is no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, we’re continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen. Stay tuned for more information on where fans can soon find this bonus content,” Disney says.
