Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption - Known Bugs and Solutions

This huge compilation of known bugs (and some small fixes) has been gathered from the official forum so a lot of it is written in the first person and it usually refers to other forum members. I hope this material can help you in any way, even if there are way more bugs than solutions. Have fun!

A small Q&A firts
Some of the models ingame are invisible/ do not show a skin.
Firstly, do you have a Mod running? If you have decompiled your .megs and deleted or edited one of the files then the skins may not appear. Alternatively try to modify the Graphic Settings in options. There is no perfect answer as everyone's systems are different. Sometimes like Graphic and coding work it is trial and error.

EaW keeps telling me I have no original disk
Firstly; there could be a problem with copy protection with your DVD/CD ROM. Check the software for your Particular Model. There may have been an updated release.

EaW keeps telling me it isn't starting because of Emulation software
Firstly turn off any Daemon tools or software that you are not sure what it does.

IF the problem persists, uninstall and delete the folders containing any emulation software you did have. If the problem does persist after all this then run a virus scans. Some Adware has been known to mimic Emulation software masking.

I can't connect to the internet
Connection issues can occur mainly due to firewalls. Add EAW/FOC to the Firewall exception list and try, if that persists then try changing whether UpNp is on or off. Check to see which port EAW/FOC accesses and try opening them in the router.

Known bugs

1. The Death Star can destroy a planet, yet you don't see its laser when it fires, the planet just blows up and you can only hear the death star firing.

The Death Star 2 Animation Does not show if you use the SuperLaser during the battle to destroy a Unit. - Wait for patch for Fix if possible

2. When the Rebels or Empire are attacked, it says "Ysalamiri cage constructing," instead of "Enemy fleet approaching." Dear me.
Known Audio Bug.

3. Vader's voice sounds like he has been castrated.
No comment.

4. Sometimes when heroes die, they don't come back. Maybe Vader influenced them and when they heard his voice they decided not to return...
Bug: Wait for Patch.

5. There are no cinematic endings. Not sure if this is a bug or just another example of cutting corners.
Not enough Answers. Code problem maybe. (Patch Fix)

6. Sometimes the Rebels cannot get to tech level 5. This only applies if the game is started at tech level 5, yet the Rebels are stuck on level 4 for some reason.

The XML isn't the problem; it's a bug in the tech level slider itself. The Rebel tech levels in XML are numbered 0-4 unlike the Empire's 1-5 (it's a mystical coder thing smile.gif ) The slider bug is causing issues where it's setting the max tech level for the Rebels to 3 instead of 4 (which translates to 4 instead of 5 visually). I've checked the XML for all of the items said to be missing and they are all set correctly.

In any case, we have a solution for the slider bug that will be in the patch. Until then, most people have found that if you leave the tech level on the default value (i.e. don't use the slider), it works fine. The heroes should auto-spawn once you reach tech 5; the MC-30 and B-wing appear in a new steal list after reaching tech 5.

7. Star Destroyers take 10 seconds to construct which is cool when playing the Empire, but strange nonetheless.
Running a Mod: Error Defunct.

8. When you Blow up a planet with the death star, sometimes it still remains in enemy hands!
It remains in the enemies' hands as they return with a new fleet and create a Starbase amid the Ruins of the Planet.

9. On occasions, the Empire, Consortium AND Rebels will all be fighting over a planet at the same time. Not sure if this is a bug or just a fluke, or a clever AI.
Probably a Fluke, there is an option in corruption that allows you to have a 3 way battle. I believe it's part of the Bribery Option.

10. You can't build capital ships on Mandalore in the Galactic campaign (I couldn't build ISDs with a level 4 space stations on Manadalore on a Galactic campaign).
A fix is being compiled.

11. Sometimes, also when you're playing GC, the enemy fleet will sit there along with yours and no combat box comes up, also when trying to launch ground attack the game will hang saying "commencing ground attack" and nothing pops up. Gameplay Bug: Wait for Patch

12. There is one general small EAW/FOC game bug. When a planet is selected, say you switch to other planets to quickly access what they have. Often space stations icons will be missing and you have to zoom out and zoom back in to see them.
GUI BUG. Wait for Patch

13. Marauder missile corvettes damage only fighter-craft and ship/base shields. Have had two corvettes using area bombard on an enemy starbase and only the shields are affected. Same for a standard attack as well.
XML Bug possibly. Wait for patch

14. Auto-resolve damage is seriously mis-set; a single Interdictor destroyed:
1 x Mon Calamari Cruiser
2 x MC-30c frigates
1 x Corellian Corvette
6 x B-wings
6 x X-wings
Will Require recode of the Auto Resolve Health and Tactical Damage. (Patch Fix)

15. Failure to end a battle after enemy forces destroyed. Had to use the auto-resolve to finish, resulting in the loss of over 12 mixed ground units. All enemy forces had already been eliminated.
Gameplay Bug: wait for patch

16. Pyneri (single-player) slave bug - At Hypori eliminated all enemy units except slaves, at which point battle ended with a victory message. Upon returning, the galactic screen planet was still under ZC control while units on-planet during attack were missing from troops in orbit. A second attack revealed the units already on-planet, like a garrison force, as well as the slave units. Upon slave unit, elimination planetary control finally switched.
Wait for game patch: the Native units seem to show up as Zann Troops

17. MC-30c frigate move/attack issue: when ordered to attack a target but there are enemy units closer, attacks those units instead. Explicit attack order, not a move-attack command.
AI bug: patch fix

18. Mc-30c attack range issue: fails to move to close enough range to fire torpedoes at target when already within laser-cannon range. Instead sits at laser cannon range and does not fire torpedoes at all. Requires manual movement to torpedo range and subsequent attack command to fire torpedoes.
AI Bug: patch fix

19. Ground unit placement bug - if ground reinforcements are called in too close to terrain features such as hills, a unit may become "stuck" within the terrain. Can fire and be fired upon, but cannot move.
Collision Mesh issues. Needs to be resolved by Art Staff At Petroglyph.

20. Snowspeeder cable attack does not work (again); a moving AT-AT, not Veers, attacked with snowspeeders, could not use the tow-cable attack, alone or
as a selected battlegroup. Snowspeeders circled in vicinity, not firing on any enemy unit nor performing tow-cable attack.
Ability Bug. Possible Animation Missing or Ability XML Missing. (Patch Fix)

21. Overly-persistent corrupt militia - planet corrupted, militia corrupted. Corruption removed, planet revolts, goes neutral. Planet re-conquered while neutral. Planet revolts again, without being re-corrupted. Repeats at least twice.
AI Bug or maybe a bug as part of the "Political Control" feature mentioned in the XMLs (Patch Fix)

22. Unable to neutralize ZC heroes with Bounty Hunters. Planet corruption begins, all planets surrounding already have BH present. BH on corrupting planet can not find a Defiler/Hero. Can not find a Hero/Defiler on any surrounding planets (multiple eliminate hero attempts, always nothing found. In another instance enemy hero (Bossk) on planet, BH in orbit along with Alliance fleet can not neutralize - window to select neutralization target is empty, but Bossk is shown on-planet.
Bounty Hunters can only take out minor heroes such as Fleet and Ground Commanders. Defilers are used as soon as corruption begins and disappear from the Galactic Map.

23. The SD tractor beam continues past the target ship all the way to the map edge as a straight line. The pulsing sine wave stops with the target ship, but the central straight line does not.
Projectiles.xml or Graphic Bug. Wait for patch.

24. Drawing bug in the galactic screen - if "Remove corruption" or "Corrupting" text is overlapping on the icon for units on a planet surface or fleet in orbit, the units can not be selected. The mouse cursor does not go to the "grabbing hand" icon. The best you can do is zoom in and move the units to a slot that is not covered by the text in the galactic screen.
Graphic Bug. (Patch Fix)

25. Planetary invasion delay - when dragging an invasion force from orbit to the surface slot to commence an attack, have to wait several seconds (at least 5) for the planet slot to light-up and be able to release the ground units and commence the invasion. If the ground slot does not high-light, then the invasion force icon returns to orbit.
Could be a Memory Error or it could be a Bug. Patch Fix, Lower system Specs or RAM upgrade required.

26. Sound-bite play bug - upon invading a ZC planet, about 1/2 the time the pop-up hologram says the "show the Empire we are a force to be reckoned with" line. It's a ZC planet, not an Imperial one...

27. DS2 sometimes can't fire at ships-- the advanced targeting button is disabled, but when you close the game and reopen it, it can fire again.
Gameplay Bug. Wait for patch.

28. Sometimes, the empire and rebel's level 3 space stations will be occupied by ZC ship, probably 2 ke-class and 1 aggr-class and some small ships, but there are no tactical battles taking place, the level 3 space station on your planet is still yours in GC map, but when you take your ships there, your will engage the ZC ships and a ZC level 3 space station!!! If you choose retreat now, the space station will be gone. This happened at least 3 times in my last GC game as empire, and even AI rebel got this problem: I invaded a rebel level3 SS, there showed ZC ships on the orbit, but in the fight, there were only rebel SS and rebel ships. After winning, my fleet stood peacefully with ZC ships, but when I changed my fleet to another slot, tactical battle began with the ZC!
Gameplay Bug. Needs to be fixed in a patch.

29. Bug: when gaining a victory and the ZC's slave units are still alive, your ground assault units will disappear. To correct this you must do it all over again.
Needs a Patch Fix.

30. Darktroopers and boba, when they use jet pack, you can press "S" for immediate landing, even on hills or in a river, but the units will be unable to move, until you use jet pack again. I think the darktroopers should be a little more in a company compare with its cost, almost an ATAT.
Movement bug on Impassable Terrain. Needs an Engine Fix.

31. One big bug: if you choose a unit to jump to enemy space earlier than other units, i.e. you want to specify the units in space battle like in ground assault, you will be UNABLE to use Tarkin or Fleet Commander in space battle, who can benefit your fleets a lot. Because of this, I never use that new ability as I use empire.

32. The Imperials have ISDs the whole time...but when they lost 24 in ONE DAY, and then 24 the NEXT day when I controlled all the CapShip planets.... I'm not sure that 48 ISDs would fit inside the PopCap if the Empire controlled all the planets plus the associated space stations maxed. Of course, ISDs never travel without a reunite of Victory, Acclimator, Tartan and Broadsides either.

While it feels more like the 'real' Empire from the movies that had thousands of ships and nearly unlimited resources, within the scope of this game it gets annoying. They kept (unsuccessfully) assaulting the same 2 fortified planets and lost 48 ISDs in 2 days. I didn't keep track of the ancillary ships they lost, but it was a lot. Probably 10-20 mixed ships per assault.

Economically, the loss of 48 ISDs in two days would be nearly irreplaceable. Losing 8 ISDs in a single day would be an economic disaster, let alone 6x that!
AI Bug. "Cheating..." Needs an AI update (Patch Fix)

33. I can't seem to bribe my way past fleets in GC with the Consortium. I can in the campaign, but in GC I have to march through planets militarily, just like the Rebels or Empire.
Possible Gameplay Bug(Patch fix). Unless the planets were not corrupted.
Bribe only works on corrupted Space lanes.

34. When I select the Skipray in a space battle, I do not get the unit response.

Same for moving the Skipray, there is supposed to be a unit response, but nothing.
Code error maybe? No Sound call for? Needs XML investigation. Patch Fix

35. The Crusader Corvette for ZC never hyperspaces into a battle like the rest of all the units lol, it's just... there when the battle starts.
Gameplay Bug. Happens to other units sometimes. Patch Fix

36. I guess that I noticed something new today, though it's nothing big. I had entered a small space battle as the ZC over a planet and destroyed the enemy, but when it got to the losses screen the game said that I had lost a Skipray, though I didn't call any into the battle (I had Tyber scout first and I didn't know how many I started with so I couldn't see if I really lost anything). Then, after I finished the ground battle at Mustafar, at the losing screen it said that the enemy lost a Acclamator Cruiser. Now there were two things wrong with this. One, it was a ground battle; and two, I was fighting the Rebels.
Possible Error with MTDCommandbar: (Patch Fix)

37. Also, one time when I moved a group including Urai into orbit from the ground, those units just disappeared. But when I moved the fleet that was already in orbit to another planet, they just returned somehow (They didn't join that fleet). Maybe he thought to use his stealth cloak.

38. A "black hole" slot can eat heroes a lot, with a raid symbol but no units. When I drag my units to that slot, the units will disappear. For a hero, the portrait on top right corner will also be gone, what a black hole slot!!! I should have a screenshot with no hero and Tech 5!!!!

39. They forgot to limit the repulsor-life engine units on Jabiim. When playing as the rebels, I found it strange that Garm Bel Iblis could be called in, but now I see that all Consortium units can as well (Canderous and such). There goes the strategy required for that planet.
Simple XML error (Patch Fix)

40. Sarlacc missing from tatooine GC land map. A minor issue in comparison to those listed above, but it still should be fixed and included in the first patch. Just leaving a big hole in the map where it used to be just doesn't look right.
Timeline seems to be set sometime during Ep VI so therefore, the Sarlacc has been killed by Luke.
If it was going to be changed it would need a Map Fix.

41.It's just so much fun finding more bugs =P Today while playing as the Consortium on Kuat defending, I had the max three structures in the battle, however it only showed two. For some reason, the game combined my Barracks and Heavy Factory into one building (You only see the factory), but this one building produced both garrison units.

42. I lose B-Wings in the post battle menu without losing any in game. It only happens with them.
Gameplay Error. (Patch Fix)

43. I've had that bug happen to me where I win a ground invasion only to find the planet still in enemy hands and my ground force mystically taken out. However, my situation really, really sucked. I had just gotten Vader for the first time since I got the expansion. Obviously, I wanted to use the Executor in space (maybe I shouldn't complain, but why does it not take up a lot of unit slots? I'm not even sure that it takes any slots!). But my separate ground force invading generously supplied him, so I thought "cool, I'll let him wreck some havoc on the ground too". Got to use the auto-specials with him. Melikey. Then the disappearing force thing happened. But it didn't stop there. If I somehow managed to gain another 15k, I still couldn't get him again. The disappearing hero bug had struck.

44. Also when you play as the Imps and you are fighting the consortium they say "Attack the rebels!" and many other things instead of consortium.

45. This isn't a bug in the game but it's just something a bit sloppy. If you ever get any indigenous units like Noghri or Mandalorian through bribing with Tyber or Corrupting with the Emperor, they have the unit symbol of a Pyn'gani unit instead of what they should be (And where'd the Pyn'gani go anyway?).
MTD bug (Patch Fix)

46 & 47: Here are two bugs I've come across:

A. When you capture an abandoned building like an abandoned mine or an abandon vehicle factory for example, seconds later it blows up for no reason.

B. Sometimes when I have 3 or 4 AT-ATs at one time, one of them will just stop responding all together, it won't move nor will it drop any troops. It still shoots if anything gets into range but nothing else.
A: I believe that the Abandoned Facilities provide 1 Garrison then auto destruct. It may be intentional; however, that needs to be looked at. (Patch Fix)

B: Known Automotor bug. (Patch Fix)

48. I was the empire and I sent my space forces to take out the last ZC planet, then I sent my land forces over a rebel planet a battle happened and I accidentally hit auto-resolve. I only had lamda shuttles and I won against an lvl 1 space station without losing a single unit.

49. Unable to Authenticate Bug:
The game installed fine, played it that night fine, once.

Two days later 'Unable to authenticate' comes up. I analyze the EXE file, send it off to Securerom, one day later they send me a new EXE file for the game. I put that in, game starts fine once. Next day I try to start the game again and I get 'Unable to authenticate CD' message again. I again analyze the EXE and send it off to Securerom, this time they say it can't use a backup CD. Problem is that this is the original disc.

I have no emulators.
I have no illegal files.
I have no back up disc or even a CD writer anymore, I just use memory sticks to transfer and store important files these days. Download this Patch from Securom

50. I bought EAW: FOC and when I got it home I tried to install it but it wouldn't load, as in it wouldn't even register on My Computer as in the drive. I also have the same problem with the original EAW but sometimes it loads and works fine!! I don't know what is wrong, the splash doesn't come up and my PC doesn't register that the game is in the drive. However, I tried it in another computer and it worked fine! What the hell is going on?
Hardware Error. Check the connections between the main Board and the CD/DVD Rom.

Mission Communications Breakdown With Urai Fen cannot be finished

Boba's seismic charge / the little projectile bit doesn't disappear after it explodes

For devs: EHD 7601 and RHD 7601 should have been EHD 7701 and RHD 7701, respectively in the Sfxevents_exp_hud.xml.

After removing corruption with the emperor, you sometimes lose control of the planet
Bugfix by Phnix Rising - This occurs when the planet has been corrupted with Corrupt Militia, and will happen regardless of whom removes the corruption because it is a feature. If you zoom into the planet once before attempting to remove corruption on a world with a corrupt militia, a little Stormtrooper icon will appear superimposed over the Remove Corruption planetary slot (at least when you're playing as the Rebellion), reminding you that you will lose the planet if you proceed.

Vader takes 3 population in land tactically.
Vader's team is set to 3 population. You can override the space tactical population. They just need to add a land override tag to fix this balance issue.

Using the Black Market I purchased Buzz Droids, but my StarVipers do not have the button to activate the ability.

IG-88 cannot kill heroes when you play as him in campaign, don't know about GC.

If you send a fleet to sullast, zahn will appear and tell you a fleet is in orbit there. Sometimes his hologram will not disappear.

I had IG-88 disappear from play; he was above Taris when I corrupted the world with a battle. When I finished the task, the game said he was still in orbit but I could not see him.

Defiler not having "Defiler" abilities
Bug Known: Solution is to build another defiler. Sometimes they do not appear to pick up the code link for the abilities.

Game crashes with exception error, all the time, no special action.

MALs can't be run over by the Gargantuan

Muunilinst - although it says the indigenous population is Muun, the picture is that of a human

MDU with a scrambler build just thrashes his saber for no damage. Only a saber throw does damage

Several Audiobugs found by more than one user:

I've found that in FoC, the "Enemy Fleet Approaching" audio has been replaced by "Ysalamiri Cage Constructing."

When making Noghri Assassins, instead of "Training Soldiers" or "Training Troops," it says "Vehicle Constructing," "Constructing Unit," "Vehicle in production," things like that.

When the special weapon for the ZC Space Staion is ready to fire, instead of "Plasma Cannon Available," or something similar, it says "Ion Cannon Available." Last I checked, Ion Cannons didn't burn a 30 meter hole in the side of a ship, lol.

When selected or finished constructing, TIE Phantoms use TIE Scout dialogue, even referring to themselves as such.

When I sent TIE Defenders into a nebula, they said things such as "Firing on the torpedo bays"

Several other known Bugs:

1. In Units_Space_Empire_TIE_Defender.xml, there is an errant apostrophe before the TIE Defender's ion cannon shot ability name.
2. In Units_Space_Empire_TIE_Defender.xml, there is an apostrophe typo in the TIE Defender squadron's power to weapons unit ability speed multiplier tag.
3. In Units_Hero_Rebel_Rogue_Squadron.xml, Rogue Squadron's... squadron has an apostrophe typo in its spoiler lock unit ability shield regen multiplier closing tag.
4. In Units_Hero_Rebel_Rogue_Squadron.xml, Rogue 11 has yet another apostrophe typo in the unique unit tag.

pretty good game although i have a serious problem when playing the rebels. After playing the game for a while, you can no longer click on the space units and use them. When you click on them, the voice comes up, but you cant move them at all, they are just stuck. Once this happens, every unit (space) that you build is unusable and unmovable.

i have had this problem for a while now, whenever i play a skirmish and GC and go into a land battle my units are just colored completely the color of my faction and evrything else is white. i can only get colour when i zoom out to the very top of the zoom cycle, plz help im gettin so annoyed at it

I have the same probwith the land battles, did you ever find a solution? All of my drivers are up to date and it is soooo annoying.

My game, i just installed it, for some reason the star destroyer and other big units dont appear like i can see the outline but thats it. how do i fix?

I like the game too, but any time I attempt a land invasion of an ice or magma world (I.E. Mustafar, or Ilum), the loading screen appears like normal, but when the loading bar is full, it beeps at me, then send me to the desktop with an error message. any ideas?

I have got the Forces of corruption expansion pack, when i go to install it, and the menu appears, i click install, it exits the menu and nothing happens.
Any solutions?

Ok. i installed the SWEAW Gold pack featuring both expansions. Now , the EAW buttn on the left at the split launch screen works fine and goes on to play and display the LucasArts presents pre-credits before the game type selections appear. The right FOC button however, once pushed, the game stops on a blank screen similar to the intsall screen without the little popup windows in the middle, leaving a black screen and frozen blue inactive circle where the mouse pointer is. So far I've tried a few things, but none have allowed me to play the expansion part of the double-install gold CD. I also tried something, like the v1.1 FOC patch, and the patch reads that FOC was not even installed (SW FOC was not found. Please reinstall). weird huh? Ideas?

To Philly B Comment #7 - I also have the exact same problem, and no one seems to know the answer to it. I have installed EaW fine, it works and I love it. When I go to install FoC, I get the black screen with the frozen mouse cursor. If you press your windows button to force the game to minimize, you see an error that was hidden. It says "An exception has occured. See _logfile.txt and _except.txt for details. Press CANCEL to exit or RETRY to debug. But when I press RETRY it closes completely. This has aggrivated me to no end.

Post the code (from the site it links to) into a notepad document and move it into a folder called XML in the data folder (in program files). My link will explain it better than I did. :-)

I have had this game installed and working before, but since i reformatted, i reinstalled but when i attempt to "Star Game" EAW it says "Star Wars Empire at war has stopped working." I tried reinstalling but it just doesn't seem to work anymore.

i have EAW and it works fine but when i istalled FOC and play the expansion it says " can not find or authenicate the original disk".i think it means the original EAW hence on cover it sys "original SW EAW dis needed to play".

aslo for the original empire at war there is no desktop icon and i can't make a shortcut(so ihave to go to "my computer" and click on he dick drive to play it)

i have a problem when i start the game it shows me lucasart and stuff but when ist done loadig it shuld shown main menu but istead it CTD (crashes to dekstop) HEEEEEEELP !!!

I have the same problem as william where the game goes to the screen with the frozen loading symbol. On my desktop FOC does this, but on my laptop ONLY FOC works.

On the FOC pack, when the enemy retreats from a ground battle they leave units behind that aren't yours but the game claims they are. For instance, the corrupt side had snowspeeders in orbit that I could move but weren't actually mine. Then the game went into some sort of unreversible pause, the game is pretty much screwed now.

it won't let me finish one pf the missions (playing as the Consortium) i have gotten up to the level were i have to free the chick from prison i save her destroy every thing on the map and take out the general and im left there with nothing on the map but my guys and nothing to do and all objectives are done ever one is still alive but the mission wont end i done it over and over it just wont finish :S

yeah i got that problem too. i tried everything from doing the objectives in a different order to getting the rancors to kill off zann urai and silri but nothing happens and i cant even retreat.

any ideas or help would be appreciated

One of my save games went into the "irreversible pause" state. Have you or anyone else found a fix to this? I would hate to think I did all that work in GC for nothing. =(

urai seems to have simply disappeared
it says hes on salecami (where he need to be) but i cant select him in any way

I've got a similar problem just before the invasion of Corusants vault in story mode. I can't find Silri anywhere, even double clicking on her icon doesn't lead me to her!

When i start up my starwars Fc It works until it starts i press play and then it just turns black it used to work but now it doesnt the disk is In great care but it says to download the next update 1.5 but i cant find how to download that.

I looked through this whole list of problems, and near the bottom, someone Finally mentions the problem I'm having: some stupid "Exception" is happening; a .txt file explains some "dump" and the text file talks about " The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.
Attempt to read from address 00000018
Exception occurred at 00996ADE - Unknown code pointer"

The biggest problem I have is mentioned right here on this page as of February 2011: "Game crashes with exception error, all the time, no special action.
No solution found at present / Patch " That's saying I can't play this game At All! It installed fine, even on my 64-bit Windows Vista; but when I try and run it, the exception junk shows up.

There is no building or unit construction icon at all I can't build up my forces altought the enemy AI can.This problem only apear in FOC expension pack.

I have had a similar problem. i have a new asus with top of the line everything. windows 7 powered EAW works fine and FoC starts up, but when i play a game (GC or Skirmish, both land and space) the build buttons are there but they are dark like i have no money and it starts my screen in the middle instead of at my base and it doesnt give me starting units. I've downloaded and installed the patches and the ram fix but nothing changed. I also use my laptop which is windows 7 and everything runs smoothly. Any help?

yes the same for me.
When I start FoC it just turns turns black and I can only see my mose.

when I insert the disk, and press play on the autorun menu, I get sound, but just a white box, when I run my mouse over it I get the option to press, but then when I do nothing happens, any ideas?
