Video game developer DICE says that working on a new Star Wars: Battlefront video game is a great opportunity for the studio but can also be scary because of the huge expectations of the fan base.

Patrick Bach, an executive producer at the company, is quoted by IGN as saying that, “We weren’t as cocky when we got the chance, because to take on something like this is scary, as you can imagine. We’ve been promising ourselves if we’re doing this we need to do it right. So trust me, we’re hard at work to figure this one out.”

The first two Battlefront games still have plenty of fans and DICE has experience in the field of multiplayer shooters, so it should be able to create an interesting game.

Bach says that his team was actually thinking about what happened to the series before they were officially contacted to work on a new installment.

The executive adds, “For some reason EA was negotiating with Lucas slash Disney, as to whom should make the new Star Wars games. And just a week later it was like, ‘Oh, by the way, that discussion you were having about Star Wars? Do you want to make it?’ ‘Well, yeah’.”

Star Wars: Battlefront is at the moment in the early development stages and the team at DICE says that it will be launched for a variety of platforms in 2015.

At the moment, no details are offered on the title other than the fact that it will be using the Frostbite 3 engine, which will be first seen in the upcoming Battlefield 4.

Inside publisher Electronic Arts teams at BioWare and Visceral are also working on video games based on the Star Wars license.

The company has an exclusive deal with Disney to use the universe in its future titles.
