Unclear whether they will be present in all the modes

Video game developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts are confirming that the AT-ST walkers that will be included in Star Wars Battlefront will be entirely player-controlled on the maps on which they will be featured.

The information comes from the official Twitter account of the game and is accompanied by a new concept image for the mechanical units, which have always been a big part of the forces of the Empire in the Star Wars movies.

The announcement comes after the company also made it clear that the bigger and more powerful AT-ATs wouldn't be player-controlled and would move on rails through levels in Star Wars Battlefront.

DICE says that the decisions have been made in order to make sure that gameplay was not adversely affected by gamers who controlled one of the big walkers.

AT-STs are still pretty powerful, but they are also relatively nimble and fast, which makes them very well suited for gamers who are looking to implement hit and run tactics.

The development team has not said exactly what capabilities the walkers will have or whether they will be offered on all the maps included in Star Wars Battlefront.

The company has already confirmed that the game will not feature space battles, and some fans are currently questioning the line-up of ground vehicles that the Rebels will be able to bring to the fight.

Star Wars Battlefront will focus on the original movie trilogy

The new DICE experience might be launching close to the new The Force Awakens film, but the focus for the included content will be on the first three movies and the battles they include.

Star Wars Battlefront is set to be offered on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 on November 17.

In December, gamers will be able to get access to a free Battle of Jakku downloadable content, which will be first offered to those who place a pre-order.

DICE has said that it wants Star Wars Battlefront to offer a new type of multiplayer experience, which accumulates a wide variety of play styles.

The big innovation is a Hero system that will allow gamers to play powerful characters like Darth Vader for a period and cause a lot of damage to the opposing team.
