Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is one of the video games that was supposed to shut down all its multiplayer modes on May 31 as GameSpy closes, but it seems that fans of the shooter will be able to continue to take each other out with support from GameRanger.

The official Steam page for the title states, “As of May 31, 2014, online functionality, including network multiplayer and wireless chat, will no longer be available for this title. We regret any disappointment as a result of the shutdown of the services supporting these online features.”

On Reddit, Scott Kevill, the leader of GameRanger, says that his team has simulated a shutdown for GameSpy and that Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will continue to run smoothly.

The service can also be used with titles like Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo: Combat Evolved Demo and Halo: Custom Edition.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 still has a dedicated fan base that continues to engage in big multiplayer battles.

At the moment, a new title in the series is being created by the team at DICE using the new Frostbite 3 engine and publisher Electronic Arts has said that it will show off the new game during the upcoming E3 2014.
