At the moment, Disney and Electronic Arts are working on the franchise

Gamers will never get to actually play Star Wars 1313 and Battlefront III, at least not in the form they were originally envisioned in at LucasArts, and sources inside the teams involved explain that the general structure of the company doomed them.

A big feature in Game Informer says that Star Wars 1313 was intended to be the title that would revitalize the universe and erase all bad memories linked to The Force Unleashed.

But it seems that George Lucas became involved with the process early on and made so many requests that the team was unable to create a solid vision for the game and had to constantly deal with his changes of opinion.

The article also mentions that the Battlefront III concept from Free Radical was initially seen as a very cool idea, but the team struggled to design actual mechanics that would work with it even as some started creating art for a sequel.

LucasArts was bought by Disney and all previous projects were terminated before the new owner announced that it entered into a long-term exclusivity deal with publisher Electronic Arts.

At the moment, we know that studios like BioWare, DICE and Visceral are working on titles linked with the franchise, but no information on their stories or on the mechanics they will use has been offered.

We do know that DICE is creating a new Battlefront title that will use the new Frostbite engine and is designed to capture the unique atmosphere of the series.

Presumably, a number of other Star Wars titles associated with the coming seventh movie in the universe will also be announced soon.

Disney might also introduce content linked to the science fiction series to its Infinity concept, via DLC or a full sequel, allowing players to pick up toys based on the most important characters.
