Captain James T. Kirk is about to get a huge lesson in humility in the upcoming “Star Trek Into Darkness,” at least judging by the extended trailer that just dropped and which, as usual, you can see in full below.

Including about 1 minute of extra footage (but also excluding some scenes from the announcement teaser), this new clip paints a clearer picture of the dangers ahead of Kirk.

Not only is he about to face the most dangerous villain ever, whose identity remains a mystery, but Kirk is also on the verge of losing everything in the world he holds most dear: his family on the Enterprise.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, “Star Trek Into Darkness” is the sequel to the 2009 “Star Trek,” and sees Chris Pine, Zacchary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Karl Urban reprise their roles from the first film.

It also brings the always exquisite Benedict Cumberbatch on board as the unnamed villain.

Check out the trailer – there are no words to describe how awesome it is, especially if you’re a fan.

“Star Trek Into Darkness” will be out in May 2013.
