Gameforce, a German online games publisher, has announced that it will be launching Star Trek – Infinite Space, a free to play browser based casual title, that will be set in the Deep Space Nine universe and will allow gamers to explore space and engage in all negotiation and intrigue linked with the television show.

Development on Star Trek – Infinite Space will be done by Keen Games, a team which has also worked on titles like Dawn of Discovery, G-Force, Dance Dance Revolution: Disney Channel Edition, and What's Cooking? With Jamie Oliver.

To help with the development Gameforge is also bringing on to the project Michael Okuda, who has played the role of art supervisor for all live action Star Trek series since The New Generation.

The move will ensure the fact that the new browser based game will be as close as possible to the look and the feel of the Star Trek universe as gamers remembers it from the small screen.

It's not yet clear if all of Star Trek – Infinite Space will be free to play or if Gameforce is interested in also offering a micro transaction model for those who like to get more in game advantages.

Ralf Adam, who is the vice president of publishing at Gameforge, has stated, “Bringing keen games on board to develop Star Trek – Infinite Space was an easy decision to make as keen has a strong history of producing outstanding titles. Our production team will work closely with keen games to bring the vision we have for Star Trek – Infinite Space to fruition.”

Antony Christoulakis, creative director at Keen Games, also said, “We have been incredibly excited about working on this project with Gameforge since day one. Star Trek is one of those franchises that every science-fiction fan would give anything to work on. We consider ourselves very lucky to have this opportunity and we are highly committed to delivering a Star Trek experience fans can be proud of.”
