48-year-old Anthony Sforza, who now lives in Long Island, New York, must be the absolute biggest “Star Trek” fan to have until now walked the Earth, and his basement more than proves it.

This man has until now spent about 1,500 hours altering and redesigning his basement in such ways that the room now looks exactly like the interior of the starship Enterprise (NX-01), one of the fictional spacecrafts featured in “Star Trek.”

Talking to the press, 48-year-old Anthony Sforza explains that, to successfully complete this project, he had to invest about $500,000 (€367,107) in materials and “Star Trek” memorabilia.

What's more, the man says he even went as far as to locate and buy part of the original set used when shooting the science fiction movies, and then tore it apart, looking to figure out which material he was supposed to use to get the full effect.

“It was very difficult at first to find materials that they used on the show. I tried to call them but getting an answer was impossible,” the man explains in a recent interview, as cited by Daily Mail.

“Fortunately I was able to purchase a piece of the original set which I pulled apart to find out the exact paint and materials that were used – that's how I created the basement,” he goes on to explain.

Oddly enough, his wife is not only not upset about how much time and money Anthony Sforza has thus far invested in this little project of his, but she is also quite proud of her husband's work, media reports say.

What's more, word has it 46-year-old Anette is ready and willing to continue supporting her husband, should he decide to roll out similar projects in the years to come and prove just how big a “Star Trek” fan he is by building other spacecraft replicas.

“When Anthony first told me his vision for the basement I couldn't see it the way he did until he started building it. Once that started happening we all started getting very excited because we were seeing his vision come to fruition.”

“I think it's wonderful, I admire him so much for being able to put vision into something like this and for it to look so incredible – it's wonderful and I'm so proud of him,” the woman comments on her husband's passion for the science fiction franchise.

The same goes for 48-year-old Anthony Sforza's children, sons Michael and David, who both claim to be very proud of their father's work and say that they can only hope that, once they grow older, they will be equally passionate about something.

Just for the record, it need be said that this man first started collecting “Star Trek” memorabilia back in the 1980s. However, it was decades later, in 2010, that he decided to get to work transforming his basement into the interior of the starship Enterprise (NX-01).
