Paramount Pictures already has the release schedule for 2015 and 2016, and fans of the rebooted “Star Trek” franchise should know that a third installment is coming their way 2 years from now. Roberto Orci will be in the director’s chair, as previously announced.

Confirmation of the 2016 release date for “Star Trek 3” comes directly from Paramount Pictures International SVP, EMEA Edward Ryan via The Hollywood Reporter, at this week’s CineEurope, the same event where the studio confirmed the fifth “Transformers” film. It will be out that same year, by the way.

Ryan said that they’re hoping production on “Star Trek” would start soon, but no sooner than 2015. Roberto Orci, the screenwriter on a bunch of box office hits including the two previous “Star Trek” movies, “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “Transformers,” will be making his directorial debut.

In doing so, he’s taking over from J.J. Abrams, who directed “Star Trek” and “Star Trek Into Darkness,” and who is now writing and directing “Star Wars Episode VII.” He long decided he could not do justice to both films, so he chose “Star Wars” over “Star Trek.”

Ryan would not reveal more details about the third installment, neither regarding the plot or the cast. If you remember the secrecy that surrounded both previous films, it would be completely unrealistic to expect anything so soon, at least via the official channels.

However, some details will leak as soon as production starts, so keep your eyes peeled.
