14 DAY TRIAL // IT companies often take a lot of liberties with artistic license when announcing a new product, but even they show some prudence before claiming something is legendary. So when they make the claim, as Roccat did for the Kone XTD mouse, we're not about to dismiss it out of hand.
The Kone XTD mouse is a gaming peripheral that relies on the Pro-Aim R3 laser sensor, which possesses high-end tracking. Even the swiftest mouse moves and clicks reach the PC with no lag.
The product is actually getting on in years, or at least months. Although that doesn't mean it's getting old, more like it's in its prime, so to speak.
In fact, Roccat figured this was a good time to expand the horizons of its favorite peripheral. And since Kone XTD is already compatible with desktops, notebooks and tablets, and maybe Smart TVs with USB ports, that only leaves Apple Macs.
Sure enough, the latest press release on the company's part proclaims the compatibility with Apple Mac systems and notebooks.
"We are thrilled to unleash the Kone XTD to the millions of Mac gaming enthusiasts worldwide," says René Korte, ROCCAT founder and CEO.
"The number of Mac gamers continues to grow, and the release of the Mac driver for the Kone XTD is just our first step towards more widespread support for the operating system's user base."
Spec-wise, the Kone XTD has a maximum sensitivity of 8,200 DPI and boasts the Easy-Shift[+] technology, which can remember two functions for each mouse button and scroll wheel. That's basically an easier to use version of programmable macros.
Then, there's the bundled driver software, which allows for various customizations, like sound feedback and lighting. The latter system is quite extensive too, as the two shimmering LED light rays on the sides can be set to one of various hues, or to "breathe" at various rates between nuances, according to game profile changes or randomly.
