Nintendo is one of the biggest video game companies in the world, owning a lot of extremely profitable and popular franchises, from the likes of Mario, The Legend of Zelda, or Metroid. But another highly successful, yet not that well-known, is Star Fox.
Introduced during the 2006 edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, the game reached Nintendo's native Japan on August 3, North America on August 28, and Europe on January 26, 2007. It was developed by Q-Games and published by Nintendo in all of the aforementioned territories.
“Star Fox Command isn't intended as a redesign of the series; it is the merged outcome of combining the Star Fox franchise with the Nintendo DS and its special features,” its creators said. “There was no intention to take it to the strategic level of Advance Wars, as Star Fox has always been very much a pick-up-and-play kind of game. We just wanted people to have some light fun with the touch screen, drawing their routes, capturing bases and the like, but not too hard core.”
Here are some of the general features and functions that the game boasts:
- Using the touch screen, players can draw the routes they and their teammates will take, then battle the enemies they encounter as they take over bases and strategically advance across the map.
- Players can blow their friends out of the sky as they dogfight with up to eight people over a local wireless connection or take on up to four players from around the world on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.Multiplayer functions:- Offline Versus Multiplayer (six players);
- Online Versus Multiplayer (four players);
- Online Multiplayer;
- Multi-cartridge Multiplayer;
- Single-Cartridge Multiplayer.
Support functions:- Stereo Surround;
- Cartridge Save;
- Vibration.
Overall, it was praised for being a return to the roots of the franchise, of air battles, and received generally positive reviews regarding its gameplay and the use of the DS' features.
UNLOCKABLES WiFi rankingWhen playing the game on WiFi, notice that there is a letter near your name. If you have just started playing on WiFi, the letter will be at Z. The letter represents your rank as a pilot, with “Z” being the lowest rank and “A” the highest rank. The only way to increase your rank is to collect the stars from enemy ships that have been destroyed. Each star gives you about 8% to 9%. When you reach 100%, your letter will go up to the next level. However, it is not that easy. The only way for you to get all the experience from each star is to be in first place after each match. If you finish in second place, you will not get the experience.
