Star Conflict, a massively multiplayer space simulation game developed by Star Gem Inc. and published by Gaijin Entertainment, is now available for the Linux platform.

There are very few working MMOs on the Linux platform, but multiplayer-only games are not something new for the open source OS. Even so, we have yet to see an MMO game get any real traction.

Star Conflict has been out on Steam for more than a year, at least on the Windows and Mac OS X platforms, but the developers have managed to port the game fairly quickly.

The premise of the Star Conflict is very simple: “Take command of varied battleships, from nimble scouting ships to heavy frigates loaded with guns and rockets. In due time, you can command your own fleet.”

The Steam website hasn't been updated yet to mark the Linux release, but the game can now be downloaded. Keep in mind that this is an F2P title (free to play) and it's based around micro transactions.

The system requirements are also quite high, but a lot of Linux users might be able to meet them: a .2.0 GHz Intel Pentium-4 / AMD Athlon II processor, 1 GB RAM, 2 GB HDD space, and 512 MB NVidia / AMD Radeon / Intel (HD 3000, HD 4000) video card with support for Pixel Shader 3.0. These is the minimum for the Windows platform, but we can expect similar requirements on Linux.

Check the official Steam website for more details about this release.
