Chris Roberts is famous for leading the most successful crowd-funded indie game in history, with Star Citizen continuously and consistently blowing through each new goal and showing no loss of momentum.

Well, to be fair, Chris Roberts is first of all famous for having created the renowned Wing Commander series of space combat simulators, which many nostalgic PC gamers remember from the golden days when pixelated gameplay was something you enjoyed because of technological constraints and not artistic direction.

So far, Star Citizen has managed to secure an astounding $42 million / €30 million through Kickstarter and other sources, in an ongoing campaign that serves to deliver probably the best space combat simulator ever created.

The massive game has just unveiled its dogfighting module during PAX East, and developer Cloud Imperium has just released a 37-minute video showing what it’s been up to lately, mainly concerning dogfighting and the Arena feature, as well as demonstrating what happens when you eject in the vast nothingness of space.

The developers have also slipped in a bit of new footage, showing one of Star Citizen's designers going out of the ship and walking around a space platform, both in artificial gravity as well as in zero-g, as well as some of the preparations that lead up to the PAX East presentation.

Space walks and zero-g navigation are important aspects of the upcoming game because they allow players to eject from their ship during a fight, avoiding an untimely death. Players will have the option of going around space on foot, so to say, making rendezvous with the nearest space station, kind of like in Gravity.

In addition, the space walking mechanics are at the core of the forthcoming vessel boarding feature, which sounds like a ton of fun and a unique and very profound mechanic that will allow players to break in and hijack enemy ships.

The dogfighting module is scheduled to go live for Star Citizen backers sometime next month if all goes right, allowing them to duke it out in online multiplayer before the full game is released, which should be sometime during 2015.
