The most successful crowdfunded project in the gaming industry, Star Citizen has just received the most important update for its playable alpha version. The release of Arena Commander 1.0 marks the addition of the long-awaited lobby system.

But that’s only a fraction of all the improvements that have been implemented in Arena Commander 1.0. For those who pledged for Star Citizen project and have access to the alpha version, here are some of the most important changes included in this major update.

Well, alpha backers will be pleased to know that Arena Commander 1.0 triples the number of flyable ships. According to developers, each variant of Aurora, Mustang, 300 and Hornet are now flyable. In addition, the base models of the Cutlass and the Avenger are flyable too.

Along with the new flyable ships, lots of upgrades have been implemented too, as well as some enhancements to the game’s systems. For example, a ship signature system has been added for the first time, as well as thruster power system and a lateral g-force system.

Besides the long-awaited lobby system, developers also launched a friends system in the game and on the Roberts Space Industries (RSI) website, which is meant to help players connect.

New animations have been implemented, as well as some audio and visual effects. New textures, new cameras and other graphics enhancements have been added.

This is just the beginning of another stage of development for Arena Commander

Backers should also know that the fact that this release of Arena Commander has been tagged with number version 1.0 does not denote an ending but a beginning. Basically, version 1.0 of Arena Commander places this alpha build into another stage of development, and a more advanced one.

There are an important number of ships, missiles, system and items included in this version of Arena Commander, so players will have a more interconnected gameplay experience. That also means that the servers will be more stressed and more bugs to be found and corrected.

Future updates for Arena Commander won’t include just bug fixes and balance issues, but some content improvements and new features as well.

With the Holiday break upon us, Star Citizen developers wanted to push this update early, so that players have more time to test the new changes implemented and report any bugs and glitches they may have found.

Keep in mind though that developers will come back to work early next year, so for any bug fixing, you will have to wait for a few more weeks.
