The developer wants no intermediary between the game and backers

Chris Roberts, the leader of development on the new Star Citizen space-based combat simulation, has explained why he chose not to use Kickstarter for his crowdfunding effort and instead asks fans to use his official website for the drive.

The game creator argues, “The problem I have with Kickstarter is that it’s better than the publisher setup, but it’s still another party. The idea was to do it all in one place, not to have some of it on your site, and some of it on Kickstarter.”

He then goes on to say, “The downside is that they’ve had a lot of time to work through the kinks. Our site’s gone down quite a few times because there are too many people visiting it.”

When Star Citizen was first announced, the official website failed completely, but since then it has been brought back online and is accepting donations.

Chris Roberts is best known for his work on the Wing Commander series.
