The latest milestone secured the addition of two new star systems

Well, it's no longer a surprise, but it's still an admirable feat, and seeing how Star Citizen manages to blow through each new stretch goal is heartwarming for fans of space exploration games.

Cloud Imperium Games has reached yet another crowdfunding milestone for their upcoming science fiction game, securing a total of over $40 / €29 million from their more than 405k backers.

The math plainly shows that the average pledge for Star Citizen is very close to $100 / €72, which is considerably beyond what any AAA game goes for, which just goes to show the amount of dedication of the upcoming game's fans.

The fact that the project leader is Chris Roberts, the famed creator of the Wing Commander series, certainly helps. By reaching the latest stretch goal, backers have cemented the addition of two more star systems to the already massive game.

The Kabal System seemed empty from the outside, but when survey teams began to assess it they found the remnants of old Tevarin cities, raising a number of unanswered questions. Instead of laying concerns to rest, the Marines sent to secure the planet only amplified the alarm, as they stumbled upon rows upon rows of Tevarin war machines, some of the technology being no more than ten years old.

The Oretani system was one of the many discovered during the era of rapid expansion that came with the 25th century. The Terraforming Corp sent to settle the only viable planet was isolated from the rest of the universe when the only jump point into the system collapsed, and so far no sign of activity has been detected in the surrounding area, leaving historians to wonder what would be found on the other side should the jump point ever reopen.

Star Citizen began life on Kickstarter, its crowdfunding campaign successfully ending with over $2 / €1.5 million raised, well over four times the initial goal. Since then, it's been steadily growing, reaching its current monstrous proportions in little over one year.

Players can show their support for Star Citizen and earn a place in the game's alpha by pledging their support on the Star Citizen website, where a multitude of game packages await them.

Star Citizen is expected to land sometime during 2015, as a PC exclusive game, and the devs mentioned earlier this month that backers can expect to be able to access the postponed dogfighting module in late April of this year, after a special backer only event which will be organized before PAX East.
