Star Citizen, the Cloud Imperium-developed space sim from Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts, breaks crowd funding records by getting more than $6.2 million (€4.84 million) from backers, both via Kickstarter and via the official website.

More than 34,000 people have funded the game, giving Space Citizen more than $2 million (€1.55 million) while over 55,000 have given money using the Cloud Imperium site.

Chris Roberts states, “I am absolutely elated by the incredible outpouring of support for this project. It’s clear that space sim fans have just been waiting for a game like ours to come along and rekindle some of the excitement that’s been missing from PC games and the space sim genre.”

Roberts says that he has plans to introduce more features to Star Citizen using the extra funds that his team now has access to.
