The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which starts next Sunday, will feature a number of comedians, who are more than ready to make light of the war on terror, according to The Independent. Between now and the end of August, there will be 27,000 performances in more than 300 venues, reports BBC.

Apparently, the Iraq war and the Make Poverty History campaign have given the comedians a wider audience than they would have expected, proving the political jokes are in fashion again.

One of the famous British comedians, Stewart Lee, who wrote Jerry Springer - the Opera, which was contested by several Christian groups when it was shown on BBC2, has rewritten his show for the Fringe since the London terrorist attacks.

"It will be a really interesting year at Edinburgh after the bombings and the war," Lee said.
"I try to get people to cheer the IRA. They were gentleman terrorists - at least they gave a warning", the comedian added.

Paul Chowdhry, a comedian who said he went to school with one of the suicide bombers, has been also preparing his jokes for the festival.

"You can feel it when you get on the Tube. (…) I couldn't even get a seat before. Now I get a whole carriage", Chowdhry says.

"Four big black guys got on the bus the other day but everyone looked at me. They had knives and guns. All I had was a bag."
