“Make it a gift they’ll never forget by adding a personal laser-engraved message to any iPad,” is what Apple may say around the holiday season, a person close the company suggests. In a move similar to that of iPod engravings, Apple is on track to offer the same service for holiday shoppers looking to grab an iPad, this source claims.

Tech-blog Erictric claims to be hearing from its sources that Apple is planning to offer consumers the option to engrave their iPads, for personalization. The source, who legitimately holds a position at the company, has asked to remain anonymous, the blog notes, adding that the move is akin to that of iPod engravings.

“From what I understand, Apple’s going to be offering customers the option to get their iPads engraved just before the Holidays roll around,” noted the source in an email to the blog. The conversation had actually started on the topic of iPhone 4 Bumpers, according to the report. The source could not confirm whether Apple plans to charge customers for the customization, although it is fair to assume Cupertino will provide the service free of charge, just as it does with its iPods.

“…most likely free, especially since they’ll be trying to sell a ton more of the tablets during the holiday season,” the source reportedly added.

Besides doing personalized engravings, Apple can also ship an iPod in a beautiful signature gift box along with a personalized greeting card and red ribbon. Customers must simply check the box next to “This is a gift” during checkout and select the Apple Gift Package.

Apple only engraves products that have a metal back casing, such as its popular iPod touch. iPad also boasts a metal case. While iPod touch has a sleek, shiny casing, the tablet boasts a matte aluminum enclosure.
