Stable Android 2.2 CyanogenMod-6.0 Release Available

The first stable CyanogenMod-6.0 release to be based on the new Android 2.2 Froyo software solution from Google has been released into the wild recently.

Following the availability of a series of few release candidate solutions, the new stable CyanogenMod-6.0 comes with support for a nice range of devices.

Some of the most popular handsets that are supported with this release include the DROID by Motorola, as well as HTC phones like the EVO 4G, the Nexus One, the older Dream and Magic, along with Aria and others.

According to Androinica, it seems that the DROID Incredible by HTC is not supported on the new CM6 release, but it might not be long before support for it, and for other devices, is added.

“CyanogenMod-6.0 is hitting the mirrors right now! This is our first stable release based on Android 2.2, and we’ve hit our target list of devices. I’m completely amazed at what this project has become and the community that has developed around it, and it’s only just getting started,” a recent post on cyanogenmod reads.

The new release was made available for download on the CyanogenMod forums, but can be downloaded from the ROM Manager too (a software solution aimed at rooted devices, enabling the download, install and backup of software).

“You can get your CM-6 fix with ROM Manager, or head over to our forums and pick your device. You can also find all things CM-related on the relevant forums at XDA,” the aforementioned post continues.

In case there are some of you who might have not encountered CyanogenMod ROMs until now, we should note that they are based on the Android Open Source Project, and that they pack a nice range of tweaks and customizations.

Rooting and accessing the bootloader on an Android-based device are required for installing these ROMs, but they worth being given a try, that's for sure.
