Square Enix, the publisher of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, has released a statement concerning GameStop's recent actions, saying that it respects its decision to pull the game from its shelves in order to remove the voucher that offered customers a free digital copy of the title through the OnLive streaming service.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was eagerly awaited by a huge amount of gamers, and it's been selling like hotcakes since its release earlier this week in North America.

What's more, Square Enix announced at the last minute that PC copies of the game would also contain a code that can be used to redeem a digital version of Human Revolution through game streaming service OnLive, so things have gone even better for that version.

GameStop, the largest retailer in North America, wasn't too pleased with this surprise promotion, and pulled all PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution off its shelves, in order to remove the OnLive voucher.

Square Enix has since released an official statement on the matter, via Industry Gamers, in which it says that it respects the decision of the retailer.

“As part of Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s boxed offering on PC, Square Enix included a third party coupon. GameStop was not made aware of this inclusion and Square Enix respects the right of GameStop to have final say over the contents of products it sells and to adjust them where they see fit in accordance with their policies," a Square Enix representative said.

"Square Enix invites gamers who want to purchase the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution without additional coupons to buy the game at any one of over 4000 GameStop stores in North America or purchase a digital download copy online from the GameStop website."

No word yet on what other retailers will do with the PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, so, if you want your extra OnLive voucher, perhaps you need to buy it sooner rather than later.
