With more than one month until its official release, Spelunker Z, the new indie game coming from Square Enix received some official screenshots and artwork.

The game was officially unveiled late last month during Tokaigi 2015 event in Japan, under the “Project: Code Z” name. Square Enix announced that its upcoming platformer game would only be available on PlayStation 4 consoles, at least for a period of time.

The game is a Spelunker clone, which is why it’s also known as Spelunker Z. The game has been confirmed for release in Japan on March 19. Square Enix has yet to announce whether or not the game will be launched in other regions as well, and when.

It’s also worth mentioning that Spelunker Z will be available for free. This means that people will be able to download and play it for free, though it’s unclear if Square Enix will add any in-app purchases in order to monetize the game in some way.

Along with the announcement, Square Enix also released a 2-minute trailer showing Spelunker Z in action. More than week later, the first official screenshots and artwork have also been published.

As you have probably noticed from the announcement trailer, Spelunker Z is an old-school 2D platformer where players explore a huge underground cave.

Obviously, your adventure won’t be uneventful, as the cave’s dwellers will most certainly not be too happy to allow you to pass through their nest. You will have to jump and dash your way through various obstacles.

Picking various items that will be stored in the inventory should make your adventure easier. Collect treasures, use ropes to climb and time your moves perfectly to avoid falling prey to the cave’s underground creatures.
