Square Enix seems to be planning something with the Final Fantasy VII universe, although company representatives have clearly stated that a full remake is currently not being considered.

The developer has recently registered a trademark for Shinra Company, the power company inside the FF7 game that also has a space division and is in charge of the elite SOLDIER group, as Siliconera informs.

Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase stated earlier that it would be very hard to create a full modern remake of Final Fantasy VII, despite fans asking for one for ages. He stated that Square Enix has other priorities as far as the Final Fantasy series is concerned, and that "it would take a lot to happen."

The trademark was registered for use with video games, so Square Enix might be planning to create another spinoff title based on the fantasy universe, which would not be a first.

For the time being, Square Enix has just launched Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and is currently working on Final Fantasy XV, a next-gen title for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
