Video game publisher Square Enix has registered a number of domain names linked to the Just Cause 4 video game title, suggesting that a big announcement about the series might be coming soon.

It’s not clear why the company would be so interested in securing websites linked to Just Cause 4, considering that it has not yet officially announced a third title in the series, but the company might be working on a side project that uses a similar sounding name.

Just Cause 1 and 2 were developed by Avalanche Studios and they quickly gained a following for their open world and complex mechanics, including the tethering and the instantly deployable parachute.

The games were very good at delivering chaos and player-created situations and Square Enix will probably be interested in leveraging them for another title.

Avalanche said that it had plans to unveil a new game during E3 2012, but it insisted that there would be no connection with the Just Cause series.
