Video game publisher Square Enix has filed a new trademark for A Realm Reborn, suggesting that it is getting ready to re-launch its much-troubled MMO Final Fantasy XIV, although it is not clear how the experience will be different from that of the game that players got to see in 2010.

Siliconera, which specializes in uncovering trademark filings from the various video game companies, says that the new name is directly linked to Square Enix and the company has also picked up domains arealmreborn.net and arealmreborn.com.

The two addresses are currently empty.

Square Enix has also unveiled a poem that talks about the future of Final Fantasy:

In the darkness the Crystal dreams From the flames of Destruction A new Beginning rises Come, brave heroes Heed the Crystal’s call Gather once more And witness a realm reborn.

The Crystal and Destruction mentions in the poem are clear signs that Square Enix is talking about Final Fantasy and the XIV MMO is the property in that universe that needs a re-launch the most.

Since the game was launched, the player base has criticized the choices that the developers have made both in terms of mechanics and when it comes to communicating with the fan base.

Square Enix has released quite a few patches for its MMO and has even allowed players to enjoy it for free in order to keep them interested, but the audience has still declined sharply.

Single-player releases, like Final Fantasy XIII and its sequel, have also struggled to reach the success of previous titles in the series.

The MMO is now set to get a version 2.0 during the fall of this year, and Square Enix might try and get more gamers interested by labeling it Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn or something similar along those lines.
