According to the latest news on the Web, wireless carrier Sprint is working on providing its HTC Touch Pro users with an upgrade to the latest Windows Mobile operating system, WinMo 6.5, at least this is what a Sprint customer support email published on pocketnow suggests. There are no exact details on whether the device is indeed the Touch Pro or the Touch Pro 2, but, in case it is the former, then this represents rather great news for a lot of users out there.

Here is what the email states:

Dear Brett, Thank you for contacting Sprint. I understand your frustration and appreciate the opportunity to resolve your issue. Currently, we are working to launch the Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade for HTC Touch Pro.[...] However, as soon as the upgrade is launched, we will inform our customers with high profile promotions. I understand that there are lot of customers waiting for the release and I can assure you that our technical department is working hard to make it available soon. I appreciate your patience and understanding in this regard.[...] Sincerely, Jaxon M. Sprint The email does not offer an exact launch date for the upgrade, yet it seems that it won't be too long before users of a Touch Pro will be able to enjoy the features that Windows Mobile 6.5 includes. In addition to announcing the work on this upgrade, the email also states that a number of other updates for the handset can be found on Sprint's website.

As many of you might already know, Microsoft announced earlier this year that the Windows Mobile 6.5 platform would become available for a series of already existing handsets on the market. At the same time, the company also stated that manufacturers and carriers would be those to decide which devices were eligible for an upgrade and which weren't.

Until now, no specific number of mobile phones eligible to receive the upgrade has been announced, though there are some handsets expected to get updated, such as the recently launched HTC Touch Pro2, Touch Diamond2, Toshiba TG01 and more. Hopefully, the older Touch Pro will also get updated, so stay tuned to learn more on this as soon as details become available.
