After Microsoft's announcement regarding the upcoming availability of its latest mobile operating system, Windows Mobile 6.5, a wide range of mobile phone makers around the world also announced plans to come to the market with their own handsets based on the OS. We already reported on the HTC Touch2, Toshiba TG01 and some LG phones running under WM 6.5, and now we learn that Samsung is also getting ready to release such a handset.

Moreover, the reports point towards Sprint as the wireless operator to add the Samsung Windows Mobile 6.5-powered device to its offering. The said Windows phone, according to BGR, would be non other than the successor of Samsung Ace, called Samsung Intrepid. As the replacement for the older Ace, the Intrepid might come to Sprint's lineup as the Samsung Ace II, yet it seems that there are no exact details on this.

The specifications list of the upcoming Windows phone would reportedly include support for CDMA/EV-DO Rev. A and GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, as well as a QVGA display, a 3-megapixel photo snapper, a 528MHz processor coupled with 256MB of RAM and a 512MB ROM, a microSDHC memory card slot for additional storage space, a QWERTY keypad, built-in GPS receiver, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The phone has been spotted on a leaked Sprint rebate sheet that seems to be available until October 31, yet there are no exact details on when the device will be launched. Given the fact that Windows Mobile 6.5 will become available on October 6, there are great chances that Sprint intros the Samsung Intrepid on that date or shortly after, yet this remains to be seen.

As for the second Samsung device spotted on the rebate sheet, called Moment, there are no details on its specs, availability or pricing, though more pieces of information should emerge in the near future. Watch this space for more updates on these devices.
