Mobile phone carrier Sprint is reportedly gearing up for offering its users the possibility to purchase mobile phones or other devices while benefiting from instant rebates for them.

The wireless operator is said to be considering removing all mail-in rebates from the devices it is selling to its customers, though it's uncertain for how long this would last.

The carrier already confirmed that, starting with March 27th, all phones and other devices at Sprint would be put on sale without the usual MIR included into the mix, BGR reports.

Sprint will temporarily replace mail-in rebates in most channels, including our company-owned retail stores, with instant savings,” a spokesperson with the wireless carrier reportedly stated.

As mentioned above, no specific info on how long the deal would last emerged for the time being, but it's certain that it would go down on Sunday, and that it would continue for an unspecified time period.

In all fairness, Sprint is not the first company to remove the mail-in rebates from its offering.

Nor is it the first mobile phone carrier in the United States to make the move, as Verizon Wireless already took a step in this direction, with the elimination of mail-in rebates for its high-end smartphones.

However, while premium phones are available at Big Red with instant savings, lower-end smartphones and feature phones still have the mail-in rebate attached to them.

Best Buy and Radio Shack, as well as other retailers, already offer mobile phones and other devices with instant savings, offering users the possibility to enjoy their new acquisitions without the hassle of MIRs.

For the time being, Sprint did not make a formal announcement on this. However, the wireless carrier would certainly offer more details on this in the next few days, before it puts in place the said instant savings, so stay tuned for more.
