Following the general trend these days, wireless carrier Sprint announced a while back plans to deploy a LTE network, and it seems that the company is on track to make its first LTE smartphones available for purchase sometime in the second half of the next year.

Next year, Sprint should have a number of over 15 LTE devices available for its customers, in a move that would offer it the possibility to catch up with AT&T and Verizon, which already have LTE fired up and devices available for their customers.

However, it appears that things are not as great for Sprint as they might seem. The carrier was expected to have LTE available nationwide by mid-2013, though it might have been forced to delay the network deployment.

One way or the other, the carrier will be moving away from WiMAX, though it remains to be seen how long it will need to get all things in line.
