US mobile phone carrier Sprint has recently announced that the LG Lotus will soon come to its airwaves wearing a brand new red coat. Some of you might have already seen the device in purple, and, if the recipient of the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for the chic and sleek form factor it sports hasn't made such a great impression on you, the red-coated version might do the job.

The new LG Lotus should start selling on April 19th, and is expected to prove a great option for those texting enthusiasts out there, states phonearena. The operator hasn't said anything on the price tag of the device, yet, it is expected to sell the same as its predecessor, namely for $99.99. If you're into it, you might want to check Sprint's website around that date.

In the meantime, we should note that the red Lotus is expected to come with a 2-megapixel photo snapper, an internal 2.4-inch TFT screen able to offer a 240 x 320 pixel resolution and support for 262K colors, as well as an external 1.3-inch TFT display that should provide a 128 x 160 pixel resolution, as well as support for 65K colors.

At the same time, the handset is expected to sport 1.9 GHz CDMA PCS, 800 MHz CDMA (Digital Dual-Band), EVDO connectivity, Music Player, External Controls, microSD memory card slot with support for up to 12GB of additional storage space, and a background music mode that would allow anyone to listen to songs while also being able to write messages, play games or surf on the Internet.

The LG Lotus also includes support for a wide range of Sprint services, including Sprint TV, (such as Sprint Exclusive Entertainment (SEE) the made-for-mobile sports and entertainment video programming network), Sprint Music Store, Sprint Navigation with GPS-enabled audio and visual turn-by-turn directions and Wireless Backup, as well as access to corporate and consumer (POP3) email.
