On October 1

According to the latest news on the Internet, wireless carrier Sprint might lower the price tag of the high-end Windows Mobile-based HTC Touch Pro2 to only $199.99 as soon as tomorrow, October 1. That would mean that the smartphone might see a $150 price cut upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the operator and after a mail-in rebate.

This certainly comes as great news for Sprint's subscribers, who won't have to pull $349 out of their pockets as they did until now, though we cannot say that Verizon will receive the news with the same pleasure. The carrier managed to sell all the Touch Pro2 it had in stock (and won't see a refill until Saturday, we heard), mainly due to the fact that it launched the device at $199 right from the start.

At the same time, Sprint was somehow expected to lower the price for the Windows Mobile-powered phone, especially since it has already dropped the cost for Palm's Pre and is expected to soon launch the HTC Hero. The performance of Touch Pro2 on Verizon might have been inspiring too, as well as the expected landing of other handsets, like the Palm Pixi.

As BGR notes, the price drop should come as good news for T-Mobile's subscribers too, as there are small chances that the carrier will maintain the $350 price tag for the HTC Touch Pro2, as well as for AT&T's users, as the Titl2 might clock in at $200 as well. However, these are only speculations at the moment, and we should expected October to come to see if they pan out.

“Some Sprint customers who purchased the device within the last 30 days are also reporting that calling telesales and chatting with eCare online may score you a $100 credit,” BGR states, which is even greater news for the carrier's users, though it sounds rather unlikely.
