Among the new handsets that wireless services provider Sprint might bring to the market during the ongoing year, we can count a smartphone from LG as well, one that would run under Android.

The said handset reportedly sports the name of LG Optimus Slider, and is said to arrive at Sprint on September 11th, at least this is what a leaked document from the company shows.

The mobile phone is expected to sport a sliding form factor, just as its name suggests, and is said to be the same LG Optimus II Gelato that leaked for T-Mobile only several weeks ago.

According to some of the latest reports on this device, LG and Google might load it with the next Android platform flavor when released (apparently, gelato is in Italian and translates to ice-cream).

However, although Google did promise that Ice-Cream would hit the market in 2011, they said that it would be released much closer to the end of the year, and a Q3 launch of a handset powered by it seems highly unlikely.

But this is only our guess, and there is the possibility that the phone would be either launched with this OS flavor on board, or it would be slated for receiving it soon after release.

The LG Optimus Slider for Sprint was spotted into the wild before, in another leaked document, which showed it as on its way to the wireless carrier in more than just one color flavor.

Apparently, both versions are expected to become available for purchase at the same time in September.

Moreover, the LG Optimus Slider should replace the Samsung Intercept in Sprint's lineup, the aforementioned leaked document that emerged at CrackBerry (via Android Central) shows.

As stated above, the handset was rumored to arrive on shelves at T-Mobile as well, but no confirmation on its possible landing at any of the two wireless carriers has emerged until now.
