Mobile phone carrier Sprint is expected to bring to the market in the United States a new series of mobile phones running under Google's Android operating system in the next several weeks, and the highly popular Samsung Galaxy S II might be among them, it seems. Recently leaked info on the carrier's plans suggest that the high-end Galaxy S II smartphone might be launched on Spetember 9th.

When made available at Sprint, the Samsung Galaxy S II would sport the name of Epic Touch 4G, being released as the successor of last year's Epic 4G smartphone.

Some of the previous rumors on the matter suggested that Sprint might launch it as the Samsung Within, but it seems that the carrier might have chosen a different naming scheme.

Apparently, Sprint might be releasing its flavor of Galaxy S II before other wireless carriers in the country would, though confirmation on this has to emerge.

In related news we learn that the Sprint Mobile IP application, available in the Android Market here, lists the smartphone as being among the supported handsets.

What should be noted here is that the application refers to this mobile phone as Galaxy S II, which does not confirm in any way the aforementioned Epic Touch 4G name for the device.

The Sprint Mobile IP application was meant to offer deaf, hard of hearing, and speech disabled individuals the possibility to place calls using text on Android devices.

The fact that Galaxy S II is present on the list of supported devices for this application confirms the fact that Sprint will indeed release it on its network, although it does not offer info on when that might happen.

One way or the other, all the necessary details on this might become available in the not too far future, as Samsung has already announced plans to unveil more on Galaxy S II for the US market as soon as August 29th.
