Sunnyvale-based mobile phone maker Palm announced a while ago plans to release a new software update for its Palm Pre and Palm Pixi handsets powered by the webOS platform, namely the webOS 1.4 firmware update, and it seems that today might be the lucky day for the owners of such a device on Sprint's airwaves. Palm was previously rumored to plan launching the software update on February 15, but it seems that Sprint will deliver it to users with a delay.

According to a recent article on Engadget, Sprint and Palm will release webOS 1.4 as soon as today, and some details on what the software solution will include also emerged. Among them, we can count a fix for the Time Zone bug, a fix for the Network time sync bug so that the accurate Network time is displayed, and other fixes, as well as a series of new features and updates, such as Video Capture capability & edit, Calendar, Email, Notifications and Messaging Enhancements, or Improved Performance (Phone & CAL).

The changelog for the webOS 1.4 software solution also includes: - Adds Adobe Flash 10.0 (Pre Only) - Phonebook Transfer (import & export) - Bluetooth car-kit transition to device corrected - No EV icon bug fixed (random) - Random browser formatting bugs fixed - Fixed bug that incorrectly displayed Sprint when actually was Digital Roaming - Missing Contact issue specifically with swap down to 1.2.9.1 or less - NOTE: The 1.4 software adds the ability to use the Flash 10.0 Adobe plug-in which will be available shortly from the Palm Appl Catalogue.

The info on what the new firmware update will bring along reportedly comes from a leaked internal document, which also states that “on 2/26, Friday evening, Pre and Pixi device users will receive an Over the Air (OTA) notification to download the new 1.4 webOS software release.” Palm's support website show nothing on the matter for the time being, but all details should become officially available in the near future, so stay tuned.
