South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics is gearing up for the launch of new Android-based smartphones this year, one of which is said to be the Optimus G2, supposedly set to land on shelves later this year as the successor of last year’s Optimus G.

The new mobile phone is now said to be en route to wireless carrier Sprint as well, and proof of its upcoming availability at this wireless carrier has already emerged.

The smartphone, spotted at the Bluetooth SIG as the LS980, has also emerged on Sprint’s website, which clearly shows that it will be released on shelves at this wireless carrier, Android Police reports.

The handset is also said to feature a MSM8974 processor inside (a Snapdragon 800 CPU), and to be running under Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS (though a newer platform flavor might be loaded on it as well).
