Although it is only two weeks old, the HTC One M8 has already seen its first set of updates, one of which has landed on the specific model available in the United States on the network of Sprint.

Owners of this device on Sprint’s network are currently being provided with an update for firmware version 1.54.651.8, which should deliver one great feature to them, namely an Extreme Power Saving Mode.

The release notes available on Sprint’s website don’t unveil too much on the update, but a post on Android Central notes that this new feature was included inside it.

With Extreme Power Saving Mode, HTC One M8 will be able to offer some more hours of battery life by shutting down many of the handset’s smart functions, leaving users only with access to the dialer, email, text messaging, calculator, and calendar apps.

According to HTC, the feature will be able to offer around 15 hours of usage time even when the phone has only 5 percent battery left.

The functionality is expected to become available for the HTC One M8 at other wireless carriers in the United States as well in the not too distant future.

In the meantime, Sprint users should be receiving a notification on the availability of the update, though they can also manually check for it, through going to Settings > About Phone > Software Update and hitting the Check Now button.
