14 DAY TRIAL // Wireless carrier Sprint has released a new software update for the owners of HTC EVO LTE smartphones on its network, so as to patch a Heartbleed vulnerability that the phone was discovered to suffer from.
The security issue was found to affect all devices running under Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean operating system, exactly the platform release that HTC EVO LTE is running under.
Sprint has already announced on its support website that the new update is available for download for this device, and also made it clear that it was destined to patch the aforementioned Heartbleed vulnerability.
All owners of HTC EVO LTE devices are advised to download and install the update as soon as possible, so as to render their phones immune to this SSL issue.
The new software release will be pushed to handsets over-the-air, and users will receive a notification on its availability. Following the update, the smartphone will run under firmware version 3.17.651.5.
Unfortunately, the new build does not provide users with a new flavor of the Android operating system for their devices, which means that they will remain stuck on the Android 4.1.1 platform iteration.
However, as Android Police notes, the smartphone is expected to receive an upgrade to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean at some point in the future, although no specific info on when that might happen has been provided as of now.
