HTC confirmed the update a few months back

Recent reports said that the Sprint HTC 8XT variant would be eligible to receive the Windows Phone 8.1 update by the end of the year.

Well, the good news is that users of the above-mentioned handset don’t have to wait any longer because the carrier has started rolling out the update for the device (as seen as at Windows Central).

Like with most updates, this one is probably going to happen gradually, so if you haven’t received a notification alerting you that the new build hit your device, don’t fret. It’s probably going to make its way to you in the few days or so.

The new update will add all the features other Windows Phone users who have been updated have been enjoying so far.

Among the features that will sweeten up your mobile experience we mention folder support, background support on start screen, access to Microsoft’s own voice assistant Cortana, action and notification center, VPN and so on.

The update arrives just a few days after Sprint rolled out the same software for the Samsung ATIV S Neo smartphone. The carrier is no longer selling these devices through its website, so you should consider yourselves lucky Sprint hasn't forgotten about older models such as these.

Anyway, Sprint has some pretty big plans concerning Windows Phone, as the carrier says more devices running on this particular operating system are expected to arrive on its (virtual) shelves in the near future.

In late October, HTC USA confirmed that the Sprint 8XT smartphone would receive the long-awaited Windows Phone 8.1 update in early December. It’s pretty nice to see the company has managed to keep its promises on track and deliver the update to users of the 8XT handset in tine.

Reminder: HTC 8XT spec round-up

The HTC 8XT was originally introduced in 2012 and arrived on the market with a 4.3-inch display boasting 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and 342 ppi.

The handset relied on a Qualcomm MSM860 Snapdragon processor fitted with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It was offered in multiple coloring options like California Blue and Flame Red.

In other news, the 8X will be the only HTC smartphone that will also get the Windows 8.1 update. The 8S does not seem to qualify for the upgrade.

HTC explains that hardware limitations are preventing its engineers from bringing any major Windows Phone update on the 8S, so those who still hang on to one of this handsets might want to start looking for replacement options.
