Starting today, owners of a Google Nexus 5 smartphone on the network of wireless carrier Sprint in the United States can download and install a new software version for their handsets, the operator has officially announced.

The new update, up for grabs now as version KTU84F, will bring along support for Sprint Spark band 26 and band 41, as well as various other “Android updates,” the available changelog unveils.

As it usually happens with firmware updates, the new one will be pushed to users in stages, which means that some of them will have to wait for several days to receive it.

As soon as the update is available for their handsets, users will receive a notification on the matter and will be able to start downloading it right away, or to postpone the process.

While no specific info on the Android enhancements that the new release brings along has been provided, Android Central suggests that this could be the KitKat maintenance update that Google has confirmed not long ago, and which was expected to arrive as Android 4.4.3.

This means that the software could resolve the camera bug that Nexus handsets have been plagued with lately, though no confirmation on the matter has been provided.

However, the KTU84F build number (the official doc mistakenly called it KTU48F, Android Police claims) is said to be part of the Android 4.4.3 branch, which means that it might start landing on other Nexus 5 phones out there as well very soon, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
